Public Complaints Bureau dragging its feet

The Public Complaints Bureau (PCB) in the Prime Minister’s Department tends to drag its feet over complaints made by citizens who turn to it in desperation.

Not too long ago, it claimed proudly on its website that problems would be attended to in three days. Now, I see the time frame has been changed from five to 15 days.

Even then, quite often, there is no response from the bureau. Is progressive retrogression a feature of ‘1Malaysia’ considering PCB is right under Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s nose?

Sometimes the complaint is listed as ‘case closed’ on PCB’s website but the complainant is not informed of the outcome.

Calls to the PCB to talk to an officer frequently proves futile. While it is recognised that the delay may not be entirely due to the PCB but to the department the complaint is directed to but surely the PCB is obliged to be open and transparent and keep the complainant updated.

If the complainant is dissatisfied with the investigations of PCB is there any further recourse for him?

This because it is not unusual for departments or personnel complained against to deny any wrongdoing or justify their action.

I sincerely hope someone responsible will advise on this recurring problem.
