I refer to the Malaysiakini report Mugilan appeals sacking, GAS stops criticising Samy.
A person seen to have some courage to stand up to an authority that refuses to bend or yield to any pressure, can so easily betray those who came to believe in him and his actions is beyond reasonable deduction.
Many questions arise as to why he chose to abandon the very principles he was seen or appeared to have stood for so strongly.
However, what comes to mind in an instance is that this person is of low or has nil values, seems to have had a misguided or misconstrued idea of seeking glory that did not materialise to expectations or simply that he was seeking some kind of political recognition or mileage which turned out to be a slap on his own face.
It can also be assumed that he sold his soul to the highest bidder for a few luxuries in return.
Whatever the reasons, after having garnered trust and support from the people who may share the same ideas or may have agendas of their own to use this as a platform, to just sort of leave the ship which he has captained so religiously, tantamounts to an empty vessel that made a lot of noise.
He wanted to bring about change within MIC and topple the man who held the reis of power for so long but produced very little progress. He wanted to show to the Malaysian Indians that it is the time for a renewal, a change for the better and called for huge support to carry out this mission. He wanted to sway with the tide of change of MIC's losing popularity and show he is better than the lot.
Ultimately, like a foul gas that temporarily fills a room, his ambitious plan just came to an inglorious end not by any strong opposition but by his shameless announcement to abandon the movement even before the dust can settle down.
What is the difference between this man and those who have also abandoned their ship to move to other more wealthy pastures? This is in reference to those elected representatives who have left Pakatan Rakyat and become either independent or moved back to BN but shamelessly hold on to their seats won on the trust of the party and the rakyat who voted for them.
This is the typical scenario in Malaysian politics. Politicians who lack a strong character, who compromise on positions and principles, betray the rakyat's trust, fail to abide by the stringent and strong demands of holding a public office and are seen to live very luxurious lives akin to a very rich businessman.
MIC as a party today, with or without the incumbent leader, is not seen to go far. Despite a disgraceful and dismal performance in the last general elections, it has not shown any kind of change to better itself and be more relevant to the people it claims to represent. Most of its actions have been more of words than real tangible results to show.
It cannot go on pulling wool over the Indians' eyes. Most of them see more clearly now of what has happened and what may become of it in the future if there is no real drastic action taken to remedy the already long depraved situation.
Mugilan has further alienated the Indian people from MIC with his wishy washy attitude. More Indians will distrust any MIC member past or present as they can easily let you down like hot air. Thus, what has resulted from his sudden turnaround is also a dent in BN's image.
Once honourable politicians emerge in Malaysia, then we can very confidently say that we have developed and matured as a highly progressive nation. Until then, Malaysia has only economic figures and infra structures to showcase.
