I am writing to highlight the news raised by the government regarding the PTPTN loan conversion to scholarship. The ministry of higher education urged the IPTs to provide names of the students who obtained first class honours to PTPTN for the conversion of loan to scholarship. They also said that those who graduated in January this year are eligible to apply.

I graduated with a first class honours for my Bachelor’s degree in June 2009 and my university had given me a letter stating that Iwas eligible to apply for the conversion with PTPTN. I sent my application to PTPTN along with a photocopy of my transcript together with the letter but PTPTN rejected it because the offer date for my PTPTN loan was already past the cutoff date.

PTPTN told me the conversion is only eligible for those who got the loan offer letter dated before July 1, 2005 while mine was dated July 5, 2005.

It is very unfair for my batch as we were rejected for the conversion to scholarship because the offer was given after the cutoff date and now the ministry wants to reward those who obtained first class honours and who graduated early this year. We had given the best of our efforts to get the first class honours and this is what we get for a reward: crushed hopes.

I e-mailed the ministry of higher education on the same matter. However, till today, there is no single reply coming from them. I have given up hope on them. There has been no follow-up after they have announced the news to the people which was just to show that they are doing their jobs.

That is why the people no longer believe in BN. Their statements, on KPI or whatever, do not mean anything at all to us unless they walk the talk.
