I hope the authorities concerned are taking a good look at the grieving husband beside his wife’s coffin on the front pages of the newspapers today.

Pictures like this will surely be all over the media in Thailand and in many other countries, too.

It is a picture of tragedy not only for the grieving husband but for Malaysia as a whole.

The views of experts who say that high-decker buses should not go on hilly roads only increases the incredulity of readers who will surely ask why the authorities did not know that basic fact.

All we are getting from the authorities is sound, not action. Bus tragedies in Malaysia are a regular occurrence.

Prosecution of people who allowed it to happen is not.

Measures to minimise it are talked about but obviously not implemented by the clueless authorities.

I believe the continued inaction after numerous, preventable bus tragedies indicates a callous dereliction of duty and should be deemed to be treachery against the nation.
