Najib's RCI announcement is a jolly good joke

Ah yes, Mr PM…..so you appear to be ‘fulfilling’ your earlier promise to Teoh Beng Hock’s family to set up a RCI should the findings of the inquest prove to be unsatisfactory.

Just a thought: you think we could have had a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) commissioned from the onset, instead of being subjected to a joke of an inquest that lasted for more than a year?

Hey, I’m not kidding; it had its comic moments – because many of us either laughed when we saw Razak the lawyer on YouTube – alongside our viewing of Najib’s infamous “I Help You, You Help Me” clip.

And what do you expect to achieve with this latest RCI where the terms of reference are to “investigate MACC's investigation procedures and whether it had violated human rights?"

Hai….. orang dah kena bunuh la - the inquest ruled suicide out, whilst acknowledging pre-fall injuries on Teoh. Oh for crying out loud, surely there must have been some gross violation of human rights at that point, don’t you think?

You know, your formation of this RCI reminds me of just how much the present-day Putrajaya folks love to form task forces and committees to ‘resolve’ issues, or to ‘get to the bottom of things’.

I am reminded of that PKFZ super task force that you announced in order to pore through Price Waterhouse’s report. Okay, so we see one big name ‘hauled’ up; but why do I get this creepy feeling that these task forces won’t go much beyond media pronouncements of their formation; perhaps some get-together sessions for currypuff and teh tarik using taxpayers’ money, and maybe one fine day - finally - when public memory has more or less faded, some token column in your mainstream media?

What about the 27 people who died in last year’s bus crash in Cameron Highlands? Will they see justice, or the delayed report from some yet another Bolehland-equipped task force?

What do you hope to achieve with this RCI? That MACC’s investigation procedures may have to be tweaked? Or another Hardev Kaur type to come out and confess that he/she was a little rough? And after that, are you hoping that everybody can go back to believing 1Malaysia Boleh?

Well, while you’re at it, could you also spare some time to implement the IPCMC, or revamp the BTN? Or give an earful to Utusan and company?  There are just too many holes and an awful failure of confidence in the Malaysian civil service today; but your Putrajaya seem more preoccupied with removing subsidies on essential items.

This is why many people have little faith in your latest attempts to pacify the public with this RCI. Perhaps you are hoping that this move - more than to establish truth and justice - will instead bag you and Umno a few more sucker votes – kinda like the pathetic press conference by Chua Soi Lek where he said Teoh’s death “should not be used as a political weapon”.

Yeah, as Jackson Ng says in his letter , if only Umno had not politicised the whole 2008 tsunami by taking Teoh in for questioning, today another proud father have been enjoying playing with his child today.

Instead, what Umno and company is giving us is another public relations attempt to look good. But who are we kidding? From the time Anwar was beaten and locked up in 1998 to this very day, where the likes of Teoh, Kugan and Altantuya are denied justice, nothing has changed.

Because nothing will ever change until Umno is out of Putrajaya. From police custodial deaths to price hikes to sabotaging of Pakatan states to an overnight religious conversion of an innocent seven-year-old to racism and blatant corruption, 50 years of too much power has made Umno crazy.

They could not even be trusted to provide justice when it is desperately needed. More and more we have become like a Mafia-ruled land where rich and powerful samsengs rule with their rnggit and control of the civil institutions.

And Najib is dreaming of transforming Malaysia into a high economy income nation? Who wants to return to this country, or who wants to invest here, when the practice of even the most basic tenets of truth and justice is hard to come by; where its citizenry are so starved of what is good and right?

Malaysia - time to vote your new destiny. Here’s to a bigger tsunami come next GE.
