I refer to your report dated 26 January 2011 headlined: RCI will look into cause of Teoh's death.

I must say that this is, indeed, refreshing to hear for it indicates that, after an inordinate lapse of time, the supreme political authority of the land has come to its senses and chose the most logical and popularly acceptable route to try determine the cause of death of the unfortunate individual as well as try to seek out events that led to it.

Of course, had it been undertaken much, much earlier, the untold distress and terrible anguish endured by the family of the departed, as well as the consternation felt by many Malaysians could have been ameliorated.

What was so difficult about appointing a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) from the very beginning if the truth was what one aspired to seek?

Why the option of establishing a Coroner's Court was chosen instead?

In my mind, if the crystal truth is what one sincerely looks for, then the setting up of an RCI from the very beginning would have been very appropriate.

I am sure that many Malaysians, whatever their political affiliations may be, are quite cognisant of the fact that the wrongs, if any, committed by over zealous civil servant/s does not mirror acceptance nor indicate acquiescence by the politicians overseeing them.

We only wish to know the facts, be aware of what was the cause of death and circumstances that led to it, period! Should it be proven that it was a self-triggered death, most of us would sympathise with the family of the departed.

Alternatively, should it be shown that the malady was caused by other parties, then, in sympathy with the family, we would strongly demand that the perpetrators of the crime be brought to justice and procedures set in place to ensure such despicable acts do not recur.

Is that too much to ask for?

In any case I plead to all and sundry to allow the freshly-established RCI to commence its proceedings without rancour nor political insinuations.

Let's all hold our tongues, permit the distinguished members to carry out their tasks professionally and with integrity whilst we all pray that this wretched episode smearing the good name of our beloved nation be cleared once and for all upon the RCI fulfilling its responsibilities!

Thank you for the common sense decision, Mr. Prime Minister!
