The several successful drug raids conducted in the country recently by the police are highly commendable.

The street values of these drugs are estimated to worth several hundreds of millions of ringgit.

These successes I believe must have been the direct result of our highly committed and dedicated police officers.

The cooperation of the public must have been another key contributing factor in busting these drug rings. Kudos to the police and the public.

Imagine if all these drugs were to end up in our streets. Our children and the community may have to face multiple social problems especially with drug related crimes.

As it is we are already witnessing and reading reports of the spike in brutal drug related crimes in the country.

Studies have indicated a direct link with drug addiction and the increased incidents of crime activities.

Once the drug activities are curbed or under control we will certainly see a drop in the crime index.

Drug abuse causes multiple problems for countries and communities.

If we are not careful the drug lords, the mafia underworld, and criminal gangs may end up powerful enough with their drug money to topple even the government.

The police are on the right track and should continue to focus on the activities of these local and foreign drug peddlers instead of wasting too much of their resources in probing petty politically tainted reports.

Although it is heartening to note the success rate of the police in busting local and international drugs rings in the country, I suspect there could be many more operating in remote areas in the country.

The threat of these drug peddlers are real and we need to make sure our enforcement agencies like the police, immigration and customs are provided with sufficient resources, especially extra manpower and equipment so that they can continue with their good work of flushing out these drug lords and peddlers.

The public should continue to give their fullest cooperation by tipping off any suspected drug activities in their surroundings.

Only through public tip offs can we successfully eradicate the drug menace which is threatening to destroy our youths and the fabric of our society.

The police on its part should find ways and means to further strengthen its bond with the public.

I noticed our policemen are still shying away from many public social functions unlike their counterparts in the US and Europe.

A successful police force is reflected by its neutral stance and its closeness to society.
