I am a Malaysian citizen currently residing in Perth, Australia. I would like to bring to your attention and hopefully you would publish this concern of mine in relation to my missing ballot paper.
I had registered myself for an overseas ballot paper prior to the announcement of the GE13 and it was approved by Election Commission (EC).
I noted my status has changed on the EC website. Then I received confirmation from it a week prior to the voting day stating that I would need to turn up at the Malaysian consulate to register my vote from 9am to 6 pm on April 28, 2013.
I turned up and was advised that my name was not on the list and I was not entitled to vote. I was not happy and the consulate staff advised me to lodge a complaint with the EC.
I was told that the missing ballot paper has nothing to do with the consulate here. Interestingly enough I noticed another person was in the same boat as me.
He was told the same story by the consulate staff.
If this can happen to me. Just imagine it could happen to other citizens around the world. In Australia alone, there are Malaysian citizens in Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Darwin, etc.
I have been a voter for the last 20 years.
To say that the EC is a credible organisation, I have my doubts. Would you say it's a pro-BN machine controlling voter's voting rights?
Many citizens did mention to me about phantom voters in Sabah. Now they are overseas.
