I went to bed disappointed but not surprised after the BN was returned to power by a comfortable majority though short of their targetted two-thirds majority in Parliament.
Life goes on, but dare I hope the PM will hear the loud voices of those who did not vote for his coalition. There are many of us who root for change but we are not hard-core opposition members. But we see the slippery and dangerous path your coalition is leading the nation down.
Now that you have your own mandate, will you do the right thing?
This may be mundane but it is important to us who see and dislike the abuse of power rampant in your previous administration. Will you rescind the 24-hour transfer order on that brave army major Azmi Buang for making a police report against the supposedly indelible ink?
The late DAP aide Teoh Beng Hock’s widow, Soo Soh Cher Wei, has spoken out against the injustice inflicted on her and your family. Even if you refused to take action against the MACC officers implicated, something that has riled the sense of injustice strongly in me, can you ensure no further punishment is inflicted on Soo Soh because of her cry for justice for Teoh? Mr PM, this is a promise you have not honoured.
You are playing the racial card when you referred to the ‘Chinese tsunami’ to describe your coalition’s poor performance in the urban areas. Mr PM, I sincerely hope you will show your leadership qualities. Yes, as you mentioned, now is the time for reconciliation.
I believe your coalition can win back the urban voters if your administration takes concrete steps towards creating a more civil, just and democratic nation. The voters have rejected the two racist and extremist Perkasa leaders sponsored by your administration.
Is it not time now to really start treating us all as Malaysians rather than continue the divide and rule policy of your previous administration? Urban Malaysians have shown they are no longer bound by their racial origins in their voting patterns. Is your coalition willing to do the same?
Can you not see the urban voters have not been misled by all the propaganda your coalition has churned out during the campaign? The Chinese have called the MCA’s bluff -we are not interested to just have figurehead Ministers with no real power. Do not forget we are very much a part of the populace as any other rakyat. It will be a test of your leadership to ensure no part of the population is victimised by the choice they make.
