The way is by separating state from religion because, generally, religions view sex as being intended by the Almighty for procreation and not recreation!

This is also the reason why homosexuality and lesbianism that do not serve the cause of procreation are viewed contrary to the laws of nature, though strangely nature is not accused of being not so perfect, in itself being responsible for so many born with both female and male characteristics  for selective prosecution of those who politically oppose, and cover up of those who support.

Ultimately, people may think that society is divided along racial and religion schisms when in fact it is comparatively more of class, and it is the ruling class that manipulates religion and race, and now even sex, to perpetuate itself

And that's how totalitarianism is perfected. It is so much easier when the 'simple' majority are not taught to be vigilant of their rights and are easy to manipulate. That is why also democracy being the votes of the 'simple' majority can so easily be manipulated to lead the other way up the path of totalitarianism, the manner of George Orwell's 1984 , in 2002.
