I read Yamin Zakaria's letter The treachery of self-appointed Arab rulers , with sadness and worry.

In his over-zealous, or even blind support for the secular nationalist Iraqi regime, Yamin has forgotten how Saddam Hussein's armies brutalised Iranians, Kuwaiti, Kurds and Shiites since 1979 when the evil regime came to power.

The absolute majority of Saddam's victims were Muslims, including children and women in Halabja in 1988, when Kurdish Muslims were poisoned indiscriminately.

It is not the Arab states that have betrayed Iraq or Muslims. o­n the contrary, it is the opportunistic regime of Saddam that has betrayed Arabs and Muslims by killing, maiming, gassing, torturing and oppressing fellow Muslims in Iraq as well as in the Arab world.

It is time Saddam supporters came to their senses as true Muslims who worship o­nly o­ne god. Saddam-worshiping is idolatrous. It is simple and clear.
