I refer to your editorial Enemies at the gate and wonder whether what you have written is just another PR exercise.
Your attempt to associate US President George W Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair's war against Iraq President Saddam Hussein, with Hitler's war against Stalin is ludicrous. Anybody with an iota of knowledge in history should be able to tell the difference.
What you have said about the great leaders of US and UK is nothing more than an attempt to denigrate them. Fortunately for you, you are staying in Malaysia. Have you not heard what happened to a man who spoke disparagingly about Saddam? Not only was his tongue cut out, but he was also left in the public square to die slowly....
I am not a war strategist, but I thought the battle of Stalingrad was different. Even though Germany was technically more superior, the Russians had the advantage of terrain. More importantly, you have forgotten that the Germans had to fight so many fronts. And who was supplying the Russians with most of the weapons? I may be wrong but I think the turning point of the war was when US entered the fray and not when Germany was defeated in Stalingrad as you said.
Please don't misconstrue what I have just said. I am neither pro-US or -UK. In fact, I am also against the war that has brought additional suffering to the Iraqi civilians and killed their soldiers.
However, in any conflict there are always two sides to the story. As individuals, we have our biases and are entitled to our opinion. But as a journalist, you have to be objective or balanced. This is the only way you can gain the respect of your readers. And is this not what education is all about?
