I refer to the letter Iraq was a war on terrorism by LCH. I feel that LCH is wrong in two ways. First of all, the correct terminology for what is happening in Iraq is not a 'war'. When a powerful country invades a weak country, it is called a 'military occupation'. Wars are fought between equally strong countries.
Secondly, what 'terrorism'are we talking about? Is the Palestinian intifadah called 'terrorism'? one person's terrorist is another person's freedom fighter. How can LCH abhor the civilian casualties that occurred on Sept 11 yet not the civilian casualties caused by US Tomahawk missiles and cluster bombs in Iraq? This is a double standard.
Life is precious. All religions teach us to respect human life. So, why is the taking of innocent human life called 'terrorism' at some times but not at other times? If 'terrorism' is defined as the killing of innocent life, how does one promote 'terrorism' as justification to end 'terrorism'?
