I applaud malaysiakini 's decision to publish the story as told by Umno with regard to the cancellation of the debate between Nazri and Syed Azman.
Many alternative media (ie. websites) chose to print only one side of the story as described by BA supporters, while the mainstream media publishes BN's side only. A free press is vital and that is why it is important for us to hear stories from all sides in this matter.
Perhaps it would do more justice if you could ensure that in every investigative journalism you print, you explain the story from all angles. There has been many cases where we can see that there is a tendency for your articles to be biased against the BN.
Although I am a PAS supporter, I do want the press to be free and I do want the press to have integrity. This is why I feel it is imperative for a respectable media like malaysiakini to be seen as independent and free from political bias.
Only with a free media can we be certain of free debates on all issues.
Editor's note:
It is always our policy to get both sides of the story. Malaysiakini 's perceived bias towards the opposition is mostly due to the problem of access. While we have very little problem getting through to opposition politicians, it is sometimes very difficult to get government politicians to talk to us. However, when they do, we often published their comments. The ban on malaysiakini journalists from covering certain government functions does not help matters. But this will not deter us from carrying out our professional duty as journalists.
