  • I refer to the letter by AS Toh, 'Dispute between Jaring and Streamyx a cause for concern' posted on Aug 26, 2003.

I wish to put on record that there is no such dispute between Jaring and TMnet as claimed by the writer. It is a normal practice for an ISP to provide SMTP server(s) for subscribers on its network to send out email.

The SMTP server will not be accessible by users who are logged in through other networks which are not within the controlled of the ISP concerned. This is a worldwide practice to reduce possible spamming and abuses. Users on Jaring's dialup network can use smtp.jaring.my to send out their email. I believe TMnet also provides similar servers.

The use of the SMTP servers should be independent from the email address of the user. As far as Jaring is concerned, as long as they are on Jaring's dial-up network, they can send email out, no matter what email address they have.

For the convenience of Jaring subscribers using other ISP to access to Internet, we do provide web-based email interface (the link is available on www.jaring.my)

I hope this clarifies the situation.

    Thank you.

    Chief Executive Officer, Jaring
