Shaukat's reply to Dr Loo Voon San's letter is so pathetic that one wonders if Shaukat has missed the point completely. The point of Dr Loo's letter is that he has been experienced a racist abuse and he wants his voice heard. Instead of being outraged by the incident, Shaukat is "bemused" and went on to declare that "racism is alive and well everywhere". In fact, no one should condone such racist abuse from anyone, regardless of his or her race, not in Australia, USA, Canada, Singapore or even in Malaysia.
It seems Shaukat has absolutely no clue on how Dr Loo and his family felt at that moment when faced with a policeman hurling abuse at them. The reason for Dr Loo's family passivity clearly reflects their level of distrust towards the police force at that moment. I hope that some justice can be done by having Dr Loo lodge a complain to the appropriate authority.
The point of Dr Loo's letter, I believe, is to have his voice heard in this "wired-up era" (in Shaukat's own word). Everyone should respect Dr Loo's freedom to be heard. Shaukat's letter does not help the harmonisation of races but further alienate himself from other races. All Malaysians, including Shaukat, should feel ashamed of such an incident.
