I am very sad to learn that the government intends to build a new airport in Pulau Tioman. I strongly believe that the project will harm the environment and pollute further the already polluted sea.

It takes only one and a half to two hours to reach Tioman from Mersing or Tanjung Gemok by fast ferry. I do not see the necessity to build another multimillion dollar airport. If needed, the airport should be built on the mainland near Mersing to serve all the people near there and the nearby islands.

Remember the hue and cry over the airport in Pulau Redang and the ecological havoc it caused?

I hope that an organisation will take it up and advise the government against the idea. If need be, let the airport be built on the mainland.
