On Nov 2, Astro's Star News Asia programme (channel 70) showed a report on Pakistan. What shocked me was that the show claimed repeatedly that "Islam was spread by the sword". I find this insulting to Muslims.

Worse still is that this programme was shown at the beginning of Ramadan. The statement was made as though it was an indisputable fact. No evidence was presented to corroborate it. In fact, the whole piece was shabby and prejudiced. It even suggested that Islam would not bring advancement and good things to the tribal communities of Pakistan and that it was better for them to keep their tribal religions instead of converting to Islam.

Yet, no similiar insult was levelled at the Christian missionaries operating in India and Pakistan.

This programme was simply outrageous. It was degrading and insulting to Muslims. It smacked of the typical propaganda that Islam persecutes women, and causes backwardness, and poverty, and ignorance, etc. I hope Astro will apologise to Muslims for showing such a distorted piece of journalism for the consumption of Malaysian Muslims.
