Works Minister Samy Vellu should resign from his post for the gross incompetence shown in how he handled the rockfall saga in the North Klang Valley Expressway. When question by reporters on why he did not act to close the highway despite knowing of the impending threat he replied:
"It is an important road because between 500,000 and 600,000 use the stretch daily and not one or two users.
"If we closed the road, I believe many transporters of manufactured goods en route for shipment via Port Klang or goods coming out from the port, would have faced a lot of problems"
Forgive me if I'm wrong minister, but it defies logic to put the lives of half a million Malaysians at jeopardy just so that we can avoid traffic jams and delayed goods at the port. If the works minister thinks that the life of a Malaysian citizen is worth less than the goods delayed on the way to port if he had closed that section of the highway, I urge the good minister to resign.
I am sure, many Malaysians would not mind to be inconvenienced and be late for their Hari Raya celebrations rather than risk the death of their loved ones. This minister has obviously slacked in his job and put the lives of hundreds of thousands of Malaysians in jeopardy.
Pak Lah urged us to work with him and not for him. But with grossly inept of ministers like Samy Vellu still gracing his cabinet, it becomes extremely difficult for the rakyat to buy into the talk that Pak Lah is interested in Malaysians working with him.
Please work for us and get us a works minister who puts the lives of Malaysians before a few million ringgit out of the Malaysian cabinet. The rakyat have no faith in a minister who puts dollars first before their lives.
