Sahabat Alam Malaysia (SAM) is highly perturbed at the state of the playing field at the Esplanade which unfortunately has become an eyesore.

SAM is shocked and appalled at the disappearing green field now marred by the sight of an ugly steel structure, and gone were the grassy field. Covering the length of the playing field were loose gravel stones and a mount of loose sand, which add to the worsening scenario.

The open green field is greatly favoured by the young and old for exercises, games, sports, outings, relaxation and all sorts of activities. It is an area favoured by tourists and it would be a pity to see the destruction to the field where the playing field once stood.

The sight of the playing field is cause for concern as SAM has no feedback of what is to become of this green area and whether it will be returned to its original form following the deteriorating state of the playing field.

SAM would like to urge the Penang state government to restore the field to its original form and to retain the beauty of the vast field. It should be maintained for posterity for the benefits of all Penangnites and tourists who have always associated the playing field with the Esplanade.
