I read with great disappointment of Abu Ya's letter accusing DAP as allegedly running its 'No to Islamic State' campaign selectively depending on the ethnic make-up of these areas.
'No to 929' posters were placed in all major cities around the country, where people coming from all walks of life will see it irregardless of whether they are Malay, Chinese, Indian or others. It is meant to send an important message.
Please do not smear the DAP's good name as the party is fighting hard to preserve the 1957 Federal Constitution, the social contract, the 1963 Malaysian Agreement, all of which held that Malaysia is a multi-racial, multi-cultural country with Islam as its official religion. However, it was never an Islamic state.
It must be noted that in the political arena, there is only one party who still continues to uphold the spirit of the Federal Constitution and openly deny the establishment of a theocratic state. Both MCA and Gerakan has chickened out when they failed to take a stand after Dr Mahathir Mohamad unilaterally declared Malaysia an Islamic state on Sept 29, 2001 at the Gerakan AGM.
The 'No to Islamic State' is a true patriotic campaign. It's not against any religion but against the establishment of a theocratic state, which will be a disaster for a multicultural country like Malaysia.
Ask the modern, moderate Muslim whether they are ready to forsake the democratic secular system. The political system should be neutral on the issue of religion, as this is an issue of personal faith; between the individual and God.
