Why is Pak Lah fighting those who are enemies of former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad? There is really no reason for Pak Lah to continue persecuting Anwar Ibrahim as the only wrong the jailed ex-deputy premier did was to stand up to Mahathir when he was in office.

Mahathir and his cronies saw to it that Anwar is destroyed politically. Pak Lah should not jeopardise his own reputation by fighting the same fight. Mahathir said last year that the fate of Anwar was in Pak Lah's hands so by denying Anwar bail when it was in his power to do so only tarnishes his name.

Pak Lah should not now pour coal into the burning fire and further the wrong the ruling party did against Anwar and his family. He should do the honourable thing and the people of Malaysia will respect him as a healer and one who unites the Malay people. But I do wonder if Pak Lah, who is reputed to be a religious man, will do the right thing.
