The current international conference in Kuala Lumpur on biodiversity should perhaps have been held in Port Dickson, Cameron Highlands or Fraser's Hill.

In each of these places, there is evidence of environmental destruction. Telephone wires are down, and stay down, at Fraser's Hill as a result of their supporting poles slipping down the hillside. Roads are frequently filled with mud from erosion where needless bungalows have been built.

The seafront at Port Dickson has been destroyed. The climate, it is said, at Cameron Highlands has become warmer on account of the new concrete developments.
