I would like to refer to the letter by Muhammad Saladin titled ' Human rights include homosexuals, lesbians '. I totally agree with the writer that homosexuals and lesbians too should have their rights.
Nobody asked to be born a man, woman, homosexual, lesbian or anything. Just because someone is a homosexual does not mean his freedom should be limited because he/she is a minority. To say that homosexual and lesbian rights should be ignored to uphold the law of the land is downright selfish and arrogant.
Ever since man began to make laws, there have been many laws which deprived people of their basic freedom. Many of these laws have been abolished, but many still prevail. And the law against homosexuality and lesbianism is one of them.
Malaysia always thinks of itself as an example in terms of moral qualities. It thinks by allowing freedom to certain groups it will let loose moral decadence. But please be assured, the more laws you have governing moral behaviour, the more things will happen behind your backs.
Like Muhammad Saladin, I also hope the UN resolution on human rights would be passed. By the way, if Malaysia thinks that other countries should stay out of its business, Malaysia too should stay out of other people's businesses. For example, former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad should not have lashed out at Singapore when it banned the wearing of veils in schools.
And I also hope that Malaysia will respect the rights of its minorities, the homosexuals, lesbians, former Muslims, the Penans and whoever else I might have left out.
