If Another Mat Tracey were a true Sarawakian or East Malaysian, he would not blatantly propose to bring Umno into Sarawak. Had he gone and eavesdropped on conversations in the kampongs, longhouses, offices and coffee shops, he would realise how absurd his proposal is.

On the one hand, Another Mat Tracey says, "The dominance of one party is further entrenched and perceived as indispensable ... the culture of dominance is further perpetuated", and that "we continue to be colonised by another power of the land". On the other, he advocates for Umno, certainly a more dominant 'coloniser', to enter Sarawak.

While it is true that a certain family has dominated the upper crust of Sarawak politics since the 1970s and has enriched themselves beyond belief with the spoils of the land, bringing Umno into Sarawak is hardly the answer. Blatant abuses of power, awards to projects without tenders, 'corporatisation' exercises to family-owned companies, nepotism and cronyism are as rampant, if not more so, within Umno as within SUPP (if I dare mention the political party in Sarawak that Another Mat Tracey is alluding to).

One of the oft-quoted reasons for Umno not to enter Sarawak is, "Look at what Umno did to Sabah politics and the native Sabahans". Need I say more?

Furthermore, Umno, being a very specific Malay party (Malay = Muslims), it stands no chance in Sarawak, as only 22 percent of the population are Malay, and a total of about 27 percent are Muslims (mostly Malays and Melanaus). The majority of Sarawakians will not see Umno as representing their interests.

The number one reason why Umno should not even attempt to go into Sarawak is that Umno is an outsider or foreign party and will be regarded as a coloniser if it goes there. Even Malay and Muslim Sarawakians will strongly object to being colonised by Umno. Yes, many Sarawakians are tired of the money politics that enriched only a few families, but certainly, Umno is not the answer! Sarawak is for Sarawakians.
