I refer to malaysiakini report ' Indians in Gerakan may withhold votes, warns group '.

I have strong sympathy for the many loyal and hardworking Indian members and grassroots leaders in Gerakan. They should be treated better and rewarded according for their contribution to the party.

However, I think the top leadership of Gerakan has blatantly sold out the founding principle of the party which is multi-racialism. In its obsession to compete with MCA to be "more Chinese than the other" and to maintain power in the predominantly Chinese Penang, the top leadership of Gerakan is now even ready to merge with the exclusively Chinese MCA.

It is not only the Chinese top leaders in Gerakan who have sold out but the party's Indian leaders as well. For example, after being appointed senator, vice president Dr S Vijayarathan is now participating in the great treachery by defending the indefensible, i.e. on why Gerakan is not fielding any Indian candidates in the coming general elections. It is really a shame.

The problem is actually not very difficult to solve if we know the root causes. The first root cause is that Umno, MCA and Chinese in Gerakan have been allocated too many seats. They do not need so many but it is greed and selfishness that cause the problem.

To solve the problem, Umno, MCA and Chinese in Gerakan should be fair-minded enough to give away some seats for the Gerakan Indians to contest. Moreover, there are many Umno, MCA and Chinese Gerakan candidates whose "winnability" is very low due to their bad record of association with triads and gangsterism, money politics, corruption, abuses of power, nepotism, cronyism and sex scandals.

If the farcical and nonsensical PPP president Kayveas, or IPF's Pandithan are allocated parliamentary or state seats to contest, it is clearly unfair and insulting to deny the more intelligent, presentable and responsible Indian professionals and intellectuals in Gerakan the opportunities to serve the country and people.

Yes. It is time to voice up the injustice. It is time to protest and demand for fairness in Barisan Nasional.
