Rajen wrote in ' Send right message to PAS ' that once the Syariah becomes the supreme law of the land, will Parliament have the power to amend the 'reworked constitution?'
Shariah law to Muslims is like the issues of bahasa ibunda , sekolah kebangsaan Cina or hak istimewa orang Melayu (Umno's favourite).
You know as well as I do that this is not a 100 percent Muslim country or a democratic one. By quoting what happened in Iran as an example of what is to come under PAS and BA is being very irresponsible.
You know your analogy is a faulty one because in Iran, the sidelined reformists in Iran were themselves Muslims. Iranians are of the Shia sect which no Sunni Muslims here would subscribe to.
Understand once and for all that Shariah laws once in place will only be implemented for Muslims and only Muslims. Non-muslims would still have the Common Law.
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang once said "As a Muslim leader, I am merely carrying out the teachings of Islam. My approach on Islamic laws such as Hudud and Qisas cannot be considered as hardline as it is the true teaching of Islam. However we have stated that a divine law cannot be imposed on non-Muslims ... so how can it be considered hardline?"
People in Umno are just putting up an act by pretending to be concerned about the fate of non- Muslims being subjected to Shariah laws because they know it can never happen. Abdul Hadi admitted that running a Muslim majority state like Kelantan and Trengganu can differ from running a state like Selangor and Penang.
Yet what Umno is proposing is to ignore Shariah laws as spelled out for Muslims and run the country and its coffers as their own.
Know this: Umno is worried sick of implementing the Shariah criminal law in its totality because they know they will then be checked by the law, being Muslims. They no longer can have their free of hand and do things at their whim and fancy.
BN has for all these years been projecting a negative image of shariah laws, which leads the society to condemn it at their leisure. The phobia of men in turbans is BN manufactured.
Extravagance, oppression, nepotism, cronysim and injustice is prevalent and synonymous under Umno's brand of Islam and will continue as long as BN stays in power.
Islam is continuously portrayed in a negative light in Malaysia thanks to the mainstream media. They selectively print distorted views and news that is sensitive playing one sector of society against another.
They have two sets of approaches and we let them dupe us year after year, from the days of our grandfather to the present generation.
And then you have the fallen Yusof Noor, the so-called ulama Umno who once declared in the Malay press that Shariah criminal law will be implemented once Muslims in Malaysia have advanced economically and socially (aren't the Malays there yet?).
Now you have the current PM saying in the English press that BN will never implement Shariah criminal law on a Malaysian plural society. Who is lying here and who is those being lied to?
DAP has to make its stand because they too, were victims of BN media manipulation that cost them big-time in the last election. Naturally, they reacted and detached themselves from BA but instead played into BN's hands. To salvage support, they were forced to take swipes at PAS' Islamic state concept which invited the recent but late reprisals by the PAS leadership.
We must help stop this continued manipulation by those in power and give Barisan Alternatif a chance to rule. PAS is not out to get the non-Muslims as many perceive but those who shelter and breed corruption had best be warned.
This is Malaysia, where elections are held every five years and the result determined by both Muslims and non-Muslims alike by way of votes. Let's give BA a term and if a strict Taliban-styled rule is implemented, change them. I personally pledge to help remove them.
But I implore you not to confuse Taliban-style rule with Islamic Shariah jurisprudence.
