It’s WWIII, but Malaysia drowning in its race war

If anyone thinks that the world is not at war, he or she is truly suffering from the ostrich syndrome. The on-going warring concerns from East to West, North to South is indeed as what Pope Francis returning from his recent trip to South Korea said, “We are now in World War III... spread out in small pockets everywhere.”

Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has just said it, too. The USA is not sitting and sky-gazing either. And the European Union (EU) is smouldering already.

But our local politicians are too busy fighting race and religion battles here instead of galvanising all sides of the political divide to converge and prepare for hard times ahead. The heat is on. It is a power-grabbing and political survival battle here in Malaysia.

Party politics is far more supreme and critical than nation-caring.

And you guessed it, the pawns are the humble, working rakyat.

Ask any foreign worker in the country peddling wallets and belts or manning a mobile stall along Bukit Bintang or Petaling Street, “How is business now?” and be ready to get a solemn look before he or she retorts, “Susah abang... no good... no good!”

Even local businessmen are complaining of slowing down business while wage earners are finding their belt-tightening efforts increasingly not yielding results. The Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M) programme by Umno is an affirmation of hard times in the country.

Even the price of chili padi has rocketted!

And mind you, we are not yet talking about these “pockets of world war” reaching our shores yet, although we have been losing oil by the ships to pirates and have to put up with million ringgit ransom demands from terrorist factions.

Should we not be more concerned about productivity, reserves and alternative crop cultivation even before the world erupts into a full-fledged war situation? Should we not be debating and seeking innovative solutions from grass roots all the way up to the office of ministers on ways and means to battle the rising cost of goods and services and the shrinking wages and cash disposals?

Should our politicians not be canvassing across the country to bring all Malaysians together in solidarity to face the uncertain times ahead?

Should our government not be announcing stringent measures to tackle the huge numbers of illegal and legal foreign workers dependency as a measure to prepare for a full fledged world war situation?

Knowing too well the situation in the Middle East region, should our leaders not slam the brakes on any divisive talks of race and religion threats and prerogatives?

We are not even talking about how to cultivate cash crops and increase food production. We are not even talking about emergency fire and bombing drills to help the population be well prepared for surprises. We are not even talking about medical needs.

Politicking is all that matters

But at the rate the politicians are warring it appears that Malaysian politicking is all that matters for leaders and blinkered supporters.

And in the face of all these their wounded-cat attacks, the rakyat’s complaints, concerns and fears remain buried.

We are wasting too much of national will fighting it out in courts and arresting people by the hundreds. We are not thinking ‘Malaysia for all Malaysians’. We are made to believe that the non-Malays are out to grab the country from the Malays.

We forget that Merdeka was won by all Malayans - Malays, Chinese, Indians, and others for the love of a land called Malaya. We forget the battles all Malayans and later Malaysians, fought against the communists. Otherwise today Malaysia would be a colony of China.

We forget that despite the ugly May 13 inflicted by politicians, the citizens stood side by side for their land and ruler.

Is it then not time to tell the politicians, the leaders and blinkered supporters that the war is not inside here amongst us but to get ready for the mega World War III in the best interests of nation, people and Agong.

Who then can now help put the horse before the cart for the ordinary rakyat who are truly the ultimate champions of country and Agong?

Or shall we just carry on with our infamous ‘tutup satu mata’ stance while the corruption, plundering and warring factions beat the hell out of the rakyat?
