May I add in some remarks on BlueRider's letter Don't touch our special rights . I, in fact, suggest that it is high time for the issue to be discussed by Pak Lah's cabinet. I am sore over the accusations that non-Muslim natives and Chinese should be thankful for this and that.
May I enlighten you why the Chinese in Sarawak feel enraged and betrayed when people talk about special rights? I am not a historian but when we Sarawakians helped to form Malaysia, the Chinese in Sarawak were given the same citizenship rights as the Malay, Iban, Bidayuh, Melanau, Kenyah, Kayan, Lun Bawang and the rest of Sarawak's ethnic races.
All Sarawakians who were born as British subjects before Malaysia was formed became Malaysians overnight. So my friend (or should I say my enemy?) BlueRider, what kind of special rights are you referring to in Sarawak?
During the Ming Court affair, was it not the Chinese votes who helped to keep the Sarawak chief minister Abdul Taib Mahmud's boat afloat? Similarly, did the MCA abandon Mahathir Mohamad in his time of need when Umno was de-registered?
With the likes of BlueRider, it is no wonder that Umno is prevented from entering Sarawak. These people would spread falsehood and cause alarm among Sarawak's population, the majority of whom are non-Malays (70 percent or more).
For instance, how would the Ibans feels about BlueRider's slanted outlook? Admittedly, Iban Malaysians are a minority but in Sarawak, they constitute nearly 37 percent of the local population.
Pak Lah is now given the chance to get rid of corruption within Umno and stem the rot that is gnawing away at the government's coffers. So BlueRider - do learn some history before you shoot from your hip.
By the way, just to enlighten you, our chief minister is a Melanau. Should he also thank the Malays?
