As with many, I think the proposal by the Selangor Menteri Besar Dr Khir Toyo to sell low-cost houses to the rich to be rented out to the poor is silly.
If it is really necessary for some low-cost houses to be rented out, this should be done by the government (state or federal). While I know some feel the added bureaucracy and red tape makes it not worthwhile, I have to disagree.
It is common in many countries for the state to buy housing to be rented out at low-cost to those in need. This way, the government does not have to set high profit margins which prevent those who need it from getting it.
Furthermore, any profit that is made goes back to the government for future use. Obviously there will be some outlay but in the long run, it will be in my opinion the best option.
