With regards to the letter by LCH and the reaction by Suhakam, the politicians including especially the menteri besar of Selangor have failed to understand market economics and made serious errors concerning the construction of such houses.

If we were to make a survey on those houses or apartments, we would discover two major problems.

First, the locations are poorly selected in remote places. Public transport is also not readily available. How would the residents travel to and from work at an affordable level?

There are shades of a hidden agenda. What about the plans to convert the old government offices especially in Jalan Duta into housing?

Secondly, most of the units are badly designed often with high density. Furthermore those units have two bedrooms. This is not enough for a typical Malaysian family given either the number of children and/or the inclusion of one's aged parents or extended family.

Even if the older citizens can afford to rent the place, they will be very remote from commercial centres.

The current situation underlines both the failure of proper housing policy for the lower income group and our abysmal public transport system.

Well, we get the government we deserve.
