I refer to the report More flak for MAYC's 'say yes to tobacco companies' move. The organisers obviously could not care less!
It is obvious that those running this campaign are only concerned with the project being carried out and not about the impact or complications which may arise from the way the financing was obtained.
The reply given by MAYC is typical of those who know they are wrong and the public has seen through them. They were hoping for the public to be gullible and not to have noticed.
It is possible fact that their MAYC's 'contacts' were the ones who approached them with the sponsorship, otherwise how could something so blatant have been missed or ignored?
I doubt that MAYC will ever be able to justify their accepting of the sponsorship at all. If the cigarette companies who sponsored this campaign are really sincere and concerned about the smoking habits (or possible lack of it) then they should remove all their advertisements.
Just let the boxes be stacked up with nothing to promote smoking at all; let there be no promotions in shopping complexes and have tobacco companies vans' repainted so that their cigarette products are not seen at all.
Maybe the government should step into this MAYC fiasco or else the RM100 million to be spent on the Tak Nak! Anti-smoking campaign will be like attempting to clean our polluted rivers with diluted soap water.
