The letters from Dato' Prof Dr Hashim Yaacob, Universiti Malaya vice-chancellor ( Talk to me about UM ) and Abdus Salam ( Rescue UM from Free Fall ) are referred to.

The prof wants to transform UM into a world-class university and Abdus Salam wants to rescue UM from a freefall.

All I would like to remind the prof is that many years ago UM was a world-class university, so why is he talking about transforming it?

To do that he would have to accept that in the past two to three decades, UM has been in free fall.

What needs to be done now is restoration and not further transformation. Enough said, as I am sure he is fully aware and knows the reasons for the free fall.
