The national service was introduced with all the best of intentions but endemic and structural defects have made it a complicated and accident prone affair.

I am sure the government will eventually get it right but I am extremely concerned with the additional burden this has placed on our police force who are already facing an acute shortage of manpower.

They have now been called to investigate rapes, robberies, fights and indecent behaviour at various national service camps.

These sort of problems may hamper our police force from carrying out their more pressing everyday police duties.
