The recent spate of murder cases are an alarming trend. And there is now a trend for the courts to refuse to admit the cautioned statements or admissions of those accused of murders.
From now on, virtually all accused murderers will claim a trial-within-trial to refute earlier 'forced' admissions of guilt, citing police brutality and coerced confessions.
This will cause prolonged court proceedings, a waste of public funds, and worse, give licence to all defence lawyers to use the so-called 'Plan B' (a term coined from the TV series The Practise ) that is to shift the blame onto the police, the witnesses or the victim to bamboozle everybody.
Isn't there a law to curb such unwarranted accusations? Are defence lawyers given the freedom to make wild allegations without owing up to them?
If this disturbing precedence becomes a trend, then I pity the judges, the police force, and the image of our judicial system and country.
