The competition for the Umno deputy youth position is already displaying a proxy fight between Abdullah Ahamd Badawi (represented by son-in-law Khairy Jamaluddin) and Dr Mahathir Mohamad (represented by his son Mukhriz Mahathir)

Unfair comment on the capability of Khairy includes the allegation of nepotism, his young age and his supposedly insufficient contribution to Umno. All this should be ignored by the well- learnt Umno delegates.

Khairy and his brainy think-tank have been working quietly in the shadow of Pak Lah even before he came into power. They have planned and implemented many good strategies and programmes that make Malaysia a better place for all.

Khairy and his intellectual team were instrumental in creating the Barisan Nasional slogans of Cermelang, Gemilang ,Terbilang and 'Work with me, not for me' that brought about the best general election victory for the BN ever.

The anti-corruption strategies mooted by Khairy's Oxbridge team might make many old goats from the former corrupted regime count their days to prosecution. This is a bold strategy to make Malaysia a better country.

The setting up of the Police Royal Commission is one of the few important measures for the Royal Malaysian Police mooted by Khairy's team. It has opened up the door for dissatisfied citizens to voice their discontent on the police force. It also allows the police an avenue to show their integrity as the guardians of Malaysian society.

The most significant contribution of Khairy to Malaysia was to close ranks between PAS and Umno in the striking off of the Kelantan election petitions .

PAS central working committee member Husam Musa and Khairy saved the Kelantanese people from facing another costly round of state elections. The striking off of the election petitions also saved PAS and Umno millions of ringgit in legal costs.

Khairy's initiative helped to ease further politicking among Umno members in facing a possible Kelantan state election. This also prevented a possible split of Umno in Kelantan over the choice of candidates.

Media-shy Khairy is a low-profile nationalist technocrat who deserves fair recognition.

He is one of the most valuable hidden treasures in Umno with his personality, performance and quality. He definitely outshines his Kubang Pasu competitors who wasted millions on the Sepang F1 circuit, who extorted from thousand of the foreign workers via exorbitant medical check-up fees and who wasted millions of taxpayers' ringgit in bailing out personal business interests.

We should not judge Khairy by his age or by his relationship with Pak Lah. He has sacrificed well-paying jobs in the corporate sector just to serve the people through Pak Lah. Khairy deserve to be recognised and to be elected to serve as deputy Umno Youth chief.
