It is a known fact that the first lady, Puan Sri Endon Mahmood, is in remission for cancer and has sought and is seeking continued treatment in the US. It is her prerogative and her right to seek treatment abroad.

No one questions that since it is her life that is at stake. Yet when it comes to the former deputy premier who is suffering as a result of an injury inflicted upon him while in the hands of the Malaysian police - to be specific, the then head of the police - he is denied his right for the treatment of his choice.

Irregardless of whether our Human Rights Commissions supports the right for him to obtain the treatment of his choice.

The man is obviously to most Malaysians innocent and his only wrongdoing is to be on the receiving end of Dr Mahathir Mohamad's wrath. The court and the Malaysian judiciary have lost all respect and dignity as seen in the last Anwar bail hearing .

Yet, the leaders of this country are so afraid of a sick man that they would rather have him suffer in anguish and pain then to grant him his right for the treatment of his choice, which is an endoscopic surgery in Germany.

Do we not have quality medical consultancy and doctors here that Anwar has to seek treatment in Germany? The same question which our learned health minister asked could be applied to the first lady, but it's wrong.

It's the prerogative of the patient as it is her or her life involved and no one except family members have the right to question that choice.

By the same token if anything happens to Anwar, i.e. permanent paralysis, the leaders of the Barisan Nasional government, its servants and representatives, will be solely and wholly responsible and they will have to face the wrath of the rakyat.
