Despite the heightened attention and hype towards Islamic issues and values in Bolehland, I find something extremely disturbing - the deafening silence of a majority of Malaysian Muslims (and other Muslims around the world) towards the ethnic cleansing unfolding in Sudan's western region of Darfur over the last six to eight months.

Notably silent here are the usual suspects: Umno Youth, PAS, the OIC of which our current PM has the chair, our foreign affairs minister, the council of ulamas ... the list goes on.

Most of the coverage and pressure being brought to bear on the Arab-dominated Sudanese government to disarm their Janjaweed Arab militias have come from the West including 'the great Satan', the US (surprise, surprise).

Could it be that because this is a Muslim vs Muslim conflict, it is considered less important than a Muslim vs West issue like Palestine and Iraq? Nothing like a 'West bashes Muslims' story to get the local crowd going, huh?

Or worse still, is the fact that Arab Muslims are ethnically cleansing African Muslims out of their homeland and that this too embarrassing to bring to the attention of the Muslim world?

Even more worse - perhaps we do not consider our African brothers to be on par with our Arab brothers? Perhaps some brothers are 'more equal' than our other brothers in the universal brotherhood of Islam.

I wonder what God is thinking of our double standards now.
