As a conscientious taxpaying citizen, I would like to know as to why our Muslim brethren who pay zakat may deduct the amount paid from their payable income tax while we non-Muslims who donate to charity may only deduct the donations from our gross incomes?
This question is significant because mosques and other Islamic institutions are in the main funded by tax revenues contributed also by non-Muslims. In monetary terms, this anomalous arrangement means that the non-Muslims are in effect paying the jiza tax and are therefore living under a form of Dhimmitude .
This violates the spirit of the social contract entered into by the founding fathers of our nation.
We would be grateful for an explanation from our policymakers.
