Tanak Wagu has said it right about the Information Ministry's shocking ban on Kadazan-Dusun language programmes. If that is the case, then let's only have English and Bahasa Malaysia programmes on TV.

As a bumiputera, I feel strongly that all the major communities of Malaysia deserve to have their cultures and languages promoted over RTM. As it is today, we have Chinese language programmes for the Chinese, Tamil language programmes for the Indians (who are mostly Tamil speakers), and Bahasa Malaysia and English language programmes for all Malaysians.

In Sabah, the three major languages we speak (apart from Bahasa Malaysia and English) are Kadazan-Dusun, Bajau and Bruneian Malay. In Sarawak, the three major languages spoken (apart from Bahasa Malaysia and English) are Iban, Melanau and Bruneian Malay.

If peninsular Malaysians can have Chinese (Mandarin) and Tamil language shows, why can't Sarawak have Iban and Melanau language shows, and why can't Sabah have Kadazan-Dusun and Bajau language shows?

You owe us all an apology, Kadir Sheikh Fadzir.

As for Bruneian Malay, I believe that since it is an indigenous language of Borneo which has marked differences with standard Bahasa Malaysia of peninsular Malaysia, it should also be promoted as a minority language.

After all, it is the mother-tongue of our current chief minister Musa Aman and that of Sarawak's leading politician Abang Johari Abang Openg.
