In reference to Dulu Umno's letter, Ring road: We deserve it , I believe the writer has spoken out of turn and I also believe the writer should not be speaking on behalf of other voters. I don't feel the same way. I don't think I deserve to be faulted.
As Dulu Umno is, I was also once, a registered member of Umno. In fact, I probably still am one, considering that the last time I checked I was still on their register; even though I have never paid even a single subscription fee.
I supported the former Umno line-up, as Anwar seemed to offer some sanity to the party. The other alternate parties, in my point of view, seemed to be in a position of being too unsure of what direction to take.
I stopped when I found that this band of people were not strong enough to challenge the ills of Umno.
My point of contention is that I personally believe that I do not deserve this kind of governance. I have never elected any BN-related party members during the two general elections that I have had the opportunity to be involved with.
I missed a couple more by being away from the country at both times. I should never be made a party to the faults of this government.
The fault is not that of the voters. The person who makes the decisions should shoulder the blame themselves.
In the case of the MRR Kepong flyover fiasco , a decent and Allah-fearing individual who is in the position of control should take the responsibility alone. Heads should roll. Samy Vellu has to go. He won't, because he doesn't fear Allah SWT, I believe.
The most recent BN victory is still under suspicion by most analytical minds. The erosion of check and the balance of power of the judiciary and the Council of Malay Rulers has been the handy work of the shrewd mind of Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
He has been successful in using Umno and BN to suit his own cause. I dread to think of all the answers that he has to give to Allah SWT on the day of judgement.
How, as someone who professes Islam, could he still keep on living a normal life with all that happened during his premiership? I also personally believe that Mahathir is still calling the shots now, with Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi just a puppet.
The most interesting question now is what do all of us - who have some sanity left - do in order to put a stop to all the wrongdoings?
The mass media is under government control, the judiciary is suspect and the Majlis Raja-Raja powerless. Government machinations are merely tools, manipulated by the elitist in power, the corrupt and the greedy business people.
Academics are too concerned about saving their own skin, rather than telling the hurtful truth. Youth are too busy partying to take notice of shortcomings. Individuals, civil servants included, are too concerned about material gains to stop and say 'NO!'
Please advise, Dulu Umno. I am at a loss, actually. May Allah SWT save us all.
