It amazes me that so soon after Anwar Ibrahim is released, there is already talk of him rejoining Umno. It leads me to belief that there is no real so-called reformasi movement. It's really about taking turns at the trough of power and wealth. Its about socialism and not about real democracy and individual rights.
I think its inevitable that Anwar will rejoin Umno with the reason that it is the best way to change the establishment - from within. This is standard politic-speak in Malaysia and our neighbouring Singapore.
But wait a minute? Wasn't this the same talk that Anwar gave when he joined his patron and later nemesis Dr Mahathir Mohamad? Not only did Anwar not achieve anything while he served the ruling party, he instead joined them in corruption, political patronage and back- stabbing etc.
Anwar is a symbol of socialist aspiration and power renewal - he nothing to do with real reformasi and individual rights and freedom.
If Anwar is serious about real reformation, he should merge Keadilan with DAP and lead a real Barison Alternatif. But he will never because he was never really about true reformasi.
