I would like to urge the Royal Malaysian Police to arrange for traffic police to monitor the traffic situation at Jalan Pantai Baru near the KL gate of Universiti Malaya (UM) in the morning, especially during examination periods of UM.

The morning section of the examination starts at 8.30am. Hence, students and lecturers sitting or invigilating the examination in the morning need to arrive at the examination hall before that time.

The examination hall is not far from the KL gate of UM. Therefore, most students and lecturers prefer to enter UM via the KL gate. As a result, the section of Jalan Pantai Baru nearby, especially the part near the junction where drivers from another side of Jalan Pantai Baru make a U-turn to enter the road heading towards UM, is extremely congested and messy in the morning.

Last Friday (June 26, 2015), at about 7.50am, I saw a motorcyclist quarrel with a car driver at Jalan Pantai Baru because the latter’s car’s side window accidentally knocked on the former’s motorcycle. There was no serious damage on the motorcycle but the motorcyclist was so angry and aggressive that he hit and kicked the car while yelling at the driver. Fortunately, the driver did not retaliate. Otherwise, the situation would have certainly turned worse.

The motorcyclist left after hitting and kicking the car. Then the driver just came out to adjust the side window of his car and made some gestures to other drivers, telling them that he did not know why the motorcyclist was so upset over such a small matter.

Therefore, a traffic policeman is needed to monitor the traffic situation at Jalan Pantai Baru near UM in order to improve the traffic situation and ensure that such unpleasant incidents would not take place again. After all, students and lecturers are already so tensed up with the examination. They deserve a smooth and safe journey to the university.
