I am shocked why no police action has been taken against certain Umno delegates who publicly threatened to disturb public order and create racial violence at the their party general assembly last week by reviving dark memories of the 1969 racial riots.

Had those rabble-rousers been from PAS, Keadilan or DAP, they would been immediately detained under the Internal Security Act right after their inflammatory speeches. At the very least they would have been charged under the Sedition Act.

The absence of both of the above shows the double-standards of Malaysia's law enforcement agencies which operates according to partisan loyalty.

This is not the first time those sore losers in society and the market threaten ethnic minorities with violence and abuse state institutions to persecute 'traitors' from the same ethnic community and spread anti-Western propaganda.

The sad thing is that it is happening again in a new era with a new prime minister who has come into power through his promises for reforms.

When will all this 'anti-others' ideology be buried in the limbo of history? The world is moving ahead fast while our country is still ruled by 'Yang Berhormats' (Right Honourables) who continue to live in their nostalgic cocoons of economic protectionism even as Indonesia, China and India are opening up and rapidly reforming their once-closed economies.
