Your report Samy: Political plot and hidden agenda against me refers.

S Samy Vellu is right. There is a conspiracy against him for whatever reasons to portray him in bad light. The Barisan Nasional MPs have been having a real go at him, something never before seen in Parliament.

Have they come to their senses and realised their parliamentary responsibility or are these Umno MPs merely diverting attention away from problems within Umno?

To be fair, Samy Vellu has not made their task any harder, for he has supplied them with the gun, the ammunition and the target, all at once. Poor fellow, he has had his own way for far too long and cannot comprehend when things don't go right.

The truth is while the Bukit Lanjan and Gua Tempurung land slides or mud slides cannot be foreseen with utmost certainty and may be an 'acts of God', one cannot say the same thing about the Johor hospital , the MRR2 highway and the computer lab fiasco

And let's not forget the nonchalant attitude of the authorities when dealing with the culprits of these severe shortcomings.

I think Samy Vellu taking the blame is unjust and unnecessary. All these fiascoes mainly arose from the government policy of awarding projects without open tenders to contractors who have neither the expertise nor the knowledge to undertake such construction works.

The government, while merely fulfilling the NEP requirement to raise the bumiputera participation in the economic activity, nevertheless are responsible for not being careful and awarding projects to only those with a proven track record.

The Selangor MB once said that a low-cost housing project awarded to a contractor was taken away from him after he failed to commence work on the project that the said contractor was not experienced in handling such projects. The issue is who awarded it to an inexperienced person in the first place?

All Samy Vellu has been doing is to merely follow government policy but unfortunately the blame has landed in his lap and everyone is pointing the finger at him.

Samy Vellu may be morally and hierarchically responsible for the long list of construction mishaps but the 'root cause' (as we fondly like to term everything) for these construction shortcomings is very simple:

Inexperienced and absolutely clueless contractors being given jobs. Any open tender system would have eliminated them is the early rounds.
