As the days go by, the Malaysian public is finding it increasingly difficult to remain focussed on the task of unearthing the 'underlying factors' that caused the debacles of landslide at the KM303 of the North-South Expressway, the cracked pillars of the MRR2, the fungus at the Sultan Ismail hospital and the irregular surface of the East Coast Highway.

Consequently, the discerning Malaysian public is plagued by a nagging (and sickening) thought that just wont go away - the thought that, yet again, (Pak Lah's assurances to the contrary notwithstanding ) mere paintwork is going to be applied and the rust and the rut will continue to gnaw at the very foundation of our society.

We will, no doubt, hear a lot more from the Malaysian public before this whole thing dies down and everyone responsible (hopefully) gets what he or she deserves. Somewhere along the line we will probably be educated by Works Minister S Samy Vellu's spin doctors on the difference between 'accountability' and 'responsibility' (remember the Durian Tunggal dam).

The Malaysian public waits with bated breath and fervently hopes that it will live to see the day when justice is done and persons responsible are brought to book irrespective of their social and political status.

All said and done, let us approach this Jabatan Kerja Raya issues with our eyes open. The public does not believe that one man alone (even one of Pak Lah's stature) can resolve the rot single-handedly.

This is a malady of several decades and it is not going to be solved overnight - and surely not by one very well-meaning man.

So please give room to the Young Turks in Umno calling for Samy Vellu's resignation. Don't treat them like kids that are still wet behind their ears.
