What is it with men and the 'tudung'? Here I refer to Non-use of the tudung has brought moral decay by Zainol Abideen.

My, isn't it easy to blame every possible sin and failing of society on the non-use of the 'tudung'. What utter nonsense!

I do not begrudge my sisters who have decided to wear the 'tudung'. Nor do I applaud the women who decide to wear clothes that may grate on certain people's sense of decency. It is a choice. Why not leave it at that. Let Allah be the judge of a person's 'worth'. No one has called upon you, Zainol Abideen, to do it.

I may not have the statistics at hand, but I dare say that incest, rape, sodomy and molestation occur - and they occur at horrifying rate - in countries that enforce the wearing of the 'tudung'.

Why place the blame of society's ills on the 'tudung', and inadvertently, on women? Men are part of society. They should accept their responsibilities as well. And when will people like Zainol understand that incest, rape, sodomy and molestation are about violence , not sex?

Don't excuse wanting to exert control over another human being with a 'she deserved it' attitude. Or must I bring up the case of the girl who was wearing a 'tudung', and on her way home in a bus was raped by the bus driver? What did she do to deserve it?

I say some men fear a lack of control over women. Therefore, why don't men then rise up and make themselves as worthy as women are today, without resorting to such superficial methods the wearing or non-wearing of the 'tudung'?

Men should be accountable for their actions. Men should increase their self-awareness. Men should respect women, regardless of the 'tudung'.

The wearing of the 'tudung' will not deter violent attacks on women. Or children. Or violence of any sort towards mankind. I do not need to quote the Quran to substantiate this.
