I am perturbed by the repeated calls by the opposition and laymen over the past few weeks for the works minister to resign.

Hey guys, just give this man a break. He is trying his best to address the issues one by one. He has sent a report to the honourable prime minister on the issues and the latter has accepted the report.

What more do people want? I can't help but suspect that each and every party out there asking the minister to resign has his or her own agenda, political or otherwise. They say it has a lot to do with the minister having been in office for 'too long' but I think the minister should go when he is ready and when his conscience is clear.

The former prime minister did not succumb to such pressures - he left when he had wanted to go.

There had been numerous other issues involving various other ministries in the past. Was every minister involved asked to resign with the same fervour and vigour?

I am no great admirer nor supporter of the works minister but to ask him to resign for a turn of events which might have been beyond his and his ministry's control is simply not justified. Why crucify him before even giving him a chance to explain himself?

The MRR2 fiasco is being addressed with the contractor having agreed to foot the bill for the repair and rectification. This issue should be laid to rest for good. In future, contracts should be awarded selectively.

The landslide at North-South Expressway near Gua Tempurung, might as well have been an 'act of God' as there has been heavy rainfall over the last couple of weeks.

If at all, it should be Plus that should be taking the blame for this incident for not monitoring danger spots after the Bukit Lanjan incident.

The 'infected' hospital at Johor Bahru is another issue that needs various ministries owning up to making the whole project go awry.

The Anti-Corruption Agency should investigate all of these issues including those that have gone into oblivion in the past due to 'interference' from various quarters.

Finally, I laud the prime minister for his unwavering and fair stand on the various allegations. To S Samy Vellu, I say bravo for standing up boldly in face of the baseless criticisms and verbal onslaught.

Keep it up - you should not leave, not now anyway.
