As Malay and a Kelantanese, I cannot but feel very inadequate, slighted and frustrated by the position taken by our country in reacting to continued human rights violations by the Thai government against helpless Thais of Malay origin. They are Muslims and many still have close blood ties with the Kelantanese.

The only way we can express our concern thus far is to say we are 'concerned' and that is all we can do. In the long history of the relationship between the two countries, Malaysia and the Malays in particular have proven to be no match to the crafty Thai government, which is cruelly practical in pursuing their agenda.

This stretches back to more than 150 years right down to recent events. We may note among them the different ways the two countries handled the communist insurgents, the Vietnamese 'boat people' right down to the handling of the current bird flu outbreak.

From mercilessly turning away the boat people while at sea, having a cabinet chicken rice party to prove that the country is free from bird flu only to have another victim struck down the next day to the recent death of the 78 Muslims at the hands of the Thai military, which was dismissed as 'dehydration due to fasting', the Thai government has proven that it is untrustworthy as much as it is crafty.

We have had enough of this nonsense. We are not amused by their crafty strategies at all. Only the Americans, the controversial high priest of human rights and its Western allies would buy such blatant lies and outright bluffs.

We expect Pak Lah to call for an emergency meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) to discuss the southern Thai tragedy as soon as possible and for appropriate action to be taken against Thailand.

Similarly, we expect America to prove that they have consistent moral and ethical human right principles that apply uniformly to all and censure Thailand for the latter's premeditated cruelty against Muslims in their southern provinces.
