Yet again a innocent life has been lost due to negligence of those in charge of ensuring public safety and security with regards to slope failure during a heavy downpour. Slope failure is not due to rainfall but happens because managed slopes under development are ill-managed or have been altered for development earlier.
All this have been highlighted before and agreed upon but we often forget and sing the same old song of blaming Mother Nature.
The intangible culprit is actually the loss in our value system of accountability and transparency. This is not to mean we should looking for someone to be faulted or blamed but there should be a party which could be held responsible.
This will ensure that anyone in the capacity to safeguard the public's safety will always act pro-actively and dutifully in the interest of the public and not wait for tragedies to happen or budgets to be allocated.
